10 Notes for Kids to Help Stop Covid-19 - When Going Out and Playing Outside

Supervised by Dr. Takayuki Miyazawa, Institute for Virus Research, Kyoto University

1. Will there be no risk if we play with friends in the open air?

No. There are some risks even if you play outside. Do wear a face mask and avoid overcrowded.

2. Can we play with balls or in the sandbox?

Be careful as a virus could stay your playthings for a while such as a ball, frisbee, racket and baseball bat etc. If you need to share one play tool with others in turn, make sure to disinfect each time the user changes.

3. Can we participate in school club activities?

If you train just by yourself, that would be ok. If you train with a group of people, do wear a face mask. If you have any anxieties, be brave to say 'no' to join.

4. Can we play indoors if we keep the window opens?

Do wear a face mask even if you play indoors with your friends. Avoid staying together for many hours.

5. How to clean my hands where no access to water?

You can take a wet towel put in a plastic bag with you. Better to use an alcohol disinfection spray/gel or sterilized wet tissue.

6. Should we be careful l if we eat snacks together?

Do not share your snacks with others. If you wish to share, use a small packaged snack.

7. Could we have a meal together?

While removing your face mask to eat, do not chat with your friends. You can chat after eating and wearing a mask again.

8. When to use a public bathroom, what should we be careful about?

Do not touch around. Put the toilet lit down before flush. Wash and dry your hands throughly after.

9. Wearing a cloth face mask could be a protection?

Non-woven mask is better but it is also said a cloth face mask has a certain effect to avoid a droplet infection.

10. What to do first when returning home after going outside?

First, go to a washroom straight away and wash your hands with soap for about 20 seconds. Second, dry your hands throughly with a towel. Third, gargle.
